Handy Tips
When installing a new transmission always:
- Check condition of cooler, lines and always carry out flush.
- Check Flex plate for cracks or worn teeth, if Ford transmission make sure it is the right flex plate.
- Check convertor has been installed to transmission correctly.
- Check convertor end float when transmission is bolted to engine (see instruction on convertor end float).
- Check shifter adjustment (see instruction on shifter adjustment).
- Vehicle only starts in Park or neutral.
- Add 4 litres before start up and continue to fill while engine is running until correct level is achieved. (Note: Always check while engine is running in park or neutral, always finalise oil level when transmission is at operating temperature.)
- Drive the car on jack & stands to make sure your new transmission is free from any problems. This is also a good way to bleed the oil through your transmission so correct level is achieved.
- Hose clamps are not recommended on high performance transmissions.
- AN-6 or 3/8 are perfect size for cooler lines.
- Make sure the hose pressure rating is correct for your transmission.
- Braided screw connections or steel slip lock fittings are highly recommended. (When using steel slip lock fittings the correct rubber hose needs to be used.)
- Should use cooler with screw connections.
Recommended Oils
- Dexron 2 based oils (Castrol Transmax M)
- Transmax Z (Can not be mixed with red oil)
- Hydraulic Oil 10W, 20W or 30W. Recommended for high horse power or transmissions fitted with straight cut gears. (This oil can not be mixed with any other regular transmission fluid if so will cause transmission to fail)
